Up Next: A Skyhoundz World Finals qualifier! This will be a fun event with a festival all around us, lots to see and do in addition to frisbee doggin, and we usually have a great crowd!
Thorntonfest registration is open!
PLEASE NOTE: You must use Skyhoundz/Hyperflite discs in this competition.
Some things to know about the Skyhoundz Classic Qualifier – because their divisions do not map exactly onto our divisions, you will notice some differences when you go to register online:
CDD Open = Skyhoundz Open
One 90 second round of freestyle, cut to the top 10 and those teams get one round of distance accuracy (aka toss & catch) and a 2nd round of freestyle. The top 3 finishers qualify for Skyhoundz Worlds in the Open division.
NOTE: entry into skyhoundz Open division is equivalent to our CDD Open division, and your points will count toward the Colorado State Championship and the Red Rocket Rider Freestyle Award (but not the Hershey Award). You are allowed to use up to 5 discs in the Open division.
CDD Advanced = Skyhoundz Sport
One round of toss & catch, cut to the top 10 and those teams get a 2nd round of toss & catch. The top 3 finishers qualify for Skyhoundz Worlds in the Sport division.
NOTE: entry into skyhoundz Sport division is equivalent to our CDD Advanced division, and your points will count toward the State Championship and the Hershey Award.
Skyhoundz offers Microdog Open and Microdog Sport divisions, for dogs less than 17 inches at the withers (we will measure at the field). Microdog divisions are run exactly as the Open and Sport divisions, except the only discs allowed are Hyperflite Pup discs. The top 2 finishers in Microdog Open and Microdog Sport qualify for Skyhoundz Worlds.
Skyhoundz offers a Pairs division, where two humans play freestyle with one dog. You are allowed 90 seconds and up to 10 discs for this division. The top 2 teams in this division qualify for Skyhoundz Worlds.
Skyhoundz offers a Youth Open division for players 15 years of age or younger as of 12/31/2025. This division follows the same format as the Open division. The top 2 teams in this division qualify for Skyhoundz Worlds.
Auditing: Skyhoundz allows a team to audit any division, where you will be eligible for all the awards that accompany your placement, but will not qualify for Worlds. You must inform us that you are choosing to audit a division BEFORE the competition begins.
Remaining CDD divisions (Intermediate T&C, Intermediate FS, Novice, Youth T&C and Rec) will be run as usual, and are not qualifying divisions for Skyhoundz Worlds.
As always, it’s a great idea to familiarize yourself with the rules of the organization you will be competing in: https://skyhoundz.com/general-competition-rules/
NOTE about music: if you would like to use the same freestyle song, do nothing. If you would like to change or add your freestyle song, please find the FREESTYLE featured post and follow the easy steps to add your song to the Spotify playlist.
Pre-registration is a HUGE help at large, busy events (all events, really) so please get registered before the cut-off at midnight, Thursday 6/5/25. Thanks!
