Why did you get involved in Frisbee?
Over 20 years ago - that was in the "olden days," when we had to walk 5 miles in the snow to play with our dogs (uphill, both ways!!) -- I had these two wonderful Aussie puppies, Sean and Sasha, who were just itching to have something to do besides digging up the
back yard. We were living in California at the time, and we happened upon a local competition being run by one of my co-workers (and soon-to-be mentor) Mike Miller. Well, our pups caused such a ruckus, that we had to take them home, but we came back and watched the end of the competition - and I was hooked! I told Mike that very day that I would return next year and beat him. While I didn't necessarily always beat him, I did return - and the rest, as they say, is history. After moving here to Colorado in 1993, I started the first club in the state, the Front Range Flyers K9 Disc Club, which as most of you know later merged with the Northern Colorado Disc Dogs to become today's Colorado Disc Dogs club.

What do you and your dog love most about Frisbee?
On a personal level it is seeing how the Colorado disc-dog scene has grown into one of the best in the nation. From a team aspect, I know Barney loves to perform -- especially when he gets to get petted by hordes of kids afterwards.

What is your best Frisbee moment?
That would have to be the first time we did a demo at a Bronco's pre-season game at a sold-out Mile High stadium. To hear 76,000+ people hold their breath and cheer when Barney snagged a long throw was awesome.

|
Do you have a most embarrassing Frisbee moment?
Unfortunately, there have been a couple of times where Barney has decided that as soon as he was done with his routine, was a very opportune time to "do a number two." There was one time where I was able to slip a frisbee under him -- at least it made clean-up really easy!

What are your Team's favorite tricks or treats?
One of our favorite tricks continues to be when I kneel down on one knee and have him run straight at me and then jump directly over my head as he grabs the disc. Barney may be slowing down a bit due to his age and not jumping quite as high, but because of his size, I still think it is an exciting move.

Have a fun fact or story about your team?
"They" call me the grandfather of the sport here is Colorado. I don't know if that means that I should start competing from a rocking chair or not.
