To celebrate Thorntonfest 2006 the City of Thornton brings you a Colorado Disc Dogs competition sponsored by Pete & Mac Pet Resort and Community Pet Hospital!

Registration begins at 10:00am -- Event starts at 11:00am.

This is a Skyhoundz Local event and will be run using Skyhoundz rules.

This is a FREE Event!

The competition is part of the annual Thorntonfest Festival and will be held at the Thornton Rec Center Fields at 108th Ave. and Colorado Blvd.

For those coming to watch, the exciting Freestyle round of competition will most likely start at about 11:30am.

Gift Bags will be provided to the first 100 competitors, each bag filled with exciting goodies and an official Thorntonfest Event Wham-o Fastback for use in the day's competition!

There will be 3 Divisions at this event -- Novice, Intermediate, and Open.

The Novice Division is for teams brand new to the sport this year. If you've never competed in a competition before, this is the division for you! Novice competitors will compete in 2 rounds of Distance/Accuracy, getting 60 seconds in each round to make as many throws for their dog as possible. Points are awarded for catches based on length of throw (up to 50 yards) and whether the dog was in the air at the time of the catch. Please see the official Skyhoundz Rules for more details. All Novice competitors registering will receive a free Hyperflite K-10 disc supplied by Skyhoundz. Novice competitors may then use this disc or most any other disc in competition, including floppy frisbees.

The Intermediate Division is for teams who have competed in previous years or competitions. If you've ever entered an event before, this is the division for you! Intermediate competitors will compete in the same Distance/Accuracy format mentioned above, and will be given a free Wham-o fastback disc to use in competition.

The Open Division consists of one 90 second round of Freestyle, and one 60 second round of Distance/Accuracy. Freestyle consists of a choreographed routine with your dog set to music, utilizing any and every type of throw and trick you can think of. This is where you routinely see vaults off the back, flips, spins, jumps, rolls, weaves, and many other amazing moves. Please see the official rules. Freestyle competitors may have a maximum of 5 discs on the field at a time. New Freestylers are always welcome, so if you think you can put on a good show, please don't hesitate to give it a try!

For those planning to stay awhile, make sure to bring sunscreen, water, chairs, and possibly some shade! Popup tents and sunshades are welcome and recommended.
