For those coming to watch, the exciting Freestyle round of competition will most likely start between 11:30am and noon.

There will be 3 Divisions at this event -- Novice, Intermediate, and Open. Besides the description here, the staff at the event will gladly answer any questions regarding format or which division you and your dog should enter.

The Novice Division is for teams brand new to the sport. If you've never competed or have been competing for less than a year, this is the division for you! Novice competitors will compete in two rounds* of Distance/Accuracy, getting 60 seconds in each round to make as many throws for their dog as possible. Points are awarded for catches based on length of throw (from 10 up to 50 yards) and whether the dog was in the air at the time of the catch. Please see the official Skyhoundz Rules for more details. Upon registration, novice competitors will receive a free HyperFlite K-10 disc supplied by Skyhoundz. Novice competitors may then use this disc or most any other safe disc in competition, including floppies.

The Intermediate Division is for experienced teams who have been involved in the sport for more than a year (365 days), but are not ready for the Open Division yet. Intermediate competitors will compete in the same Distance/Accuracy format mentioned above. Intermediate competitors will need to supply their own HyperFlite K-10 disc or Wham-O Fastback. Official club discs will be available for sale on site for $3.00, with quantity discounts available.

The Open Division is for the most experienced teams and consists of one 90 second round of Freestyle, and one 60 second round of Distance/Accuracy. Freestyle consists of a choreographed routine with your dog set to music, utilizing multiple discs and any and every type of throw and trick you can think of. This is where you routinely see vaults off the back, flips, spins, jumps, rolls, weaves, and many other amazing moves. Please see the official rules here. New Freestylers are always welcome, so if you think you can put on a good show, please don't hesitate to give it a try! Open competitors are also required to supply their own K-10 or Fastback discs.

For those planning to stay awhile, make sure to bring sunscreen, water, chairs, and possibly some shade! Popup tents and sunshades are welcome and recommended.

Please call Donna or Fred at 719-748-1466 if you have any additional questions.

* Depending on the number of teams registered in each division and in the interest of time, the event organizers may decide to limit participation in the Second Round to the top finishers of Round One. This decision will be made once registration is complete and announced prior to the beginning of Round One.
